My new Nikon NIKKOR 50mm f/1.2 AIS Manual Focus Lens has arrived!
What a fun lens!…this is my first lens with f/1.2, so the first thing I did of course was crank the aperture wide open and then walk around the house incessantly taking photos of anything I could find. Mastering the manual focus took very little time…even when it’s set on f/1.2, simply using live view and zooming is extremely effective to get pin point focus. When I saw my wife start slicing tomatoes…well…instant film! It may not be super exciting , but the challenge of filming everything with f/1.2 was a blast.
I also have the most dimly poor lit kitchen imaginable. So even on f/1.2 my ISO stayed around 1000 with a shutter speed of 1/50. Honestly one of my favorite clips was the oil dripping on the pan. To get that close I simply attached a small extension tube. For a lens that’s not very sharp at f/1.2 I think it performed extremely well!
